Skills in Demand visa: what changed when it replaced the TSS 482
The former Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) arrangements have been replaced by the Skills in Demand visa, still under subclass 482.
What changed
- Three streams: Core Skills (occupation must be on the Core Skills Occupation List), Specialist Skills (no occupation list, high salary threshold, faster and longer 5-year terms) and Labour Agreement.
- Work experience: reduced to at least 1 year of relevant full-time experience within the last 5 years (previously 2 years).
- Salary thresholds are indexed annually on 1 July — always check the current figure on the Subclass 482 guide.
Who it affects
Employers sponsoring skilled workers, and workers planning a pathway to permanent residence via the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186). If you were planning around the old TSS rules, the stream and experience changes may improve your options.
